John Huy Addams, Jane Addams' Inspiration
John Huy Addams played a big role in Jane Addams' (his daughter) life and was one of the reasons that Jane Addams believed in equality for all. In fact, when Jane Addams was seven, she decided to help/live with the people who were not as fortunate as her. Jane Addams decided to help others less fortunate then her, while on a buggy trip to go to a business meeting with her father. To get to their final destination they had to go through the nearby city, Freeport's poorer immigrant neighborhoods. As a result of Jane Addams living a life of luxury with her father's income being $3,000, Jane never really knew how it was to have little money. During that buggy ride, Jane asked her father why the people lived the way they did. John H. Addams told her it was because they didn't have a lot of money. Then According to Jane Addams' autobiography "I declared with much firmness that when I grew up I should of course have a large house but it would not be built among the other big houses but right in the midst of horrid little houses like these".
